Court Competency Training provides one to one training in the Lake County jail, or other sites deemed appropriate for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities who have been arrested and charged with a crime to see if they can become competent to stand trial. If the training can restore competency, the person can continue with their case. If not, the person waits usually in jail, until an opening occurs at Porterville Developmental Center. Porterville provides the training in a locked setting, but the waiting is generally long, and it can take months for an opening to occur. 

People Services modifies the training for the individual needing this service. Shorter chapter summaries and diagrams have been used extensively in order to facilitate learning. This is done to better address mental health issues, difficulty in concentrating, remembering, etc.
