Anyone who has ever cared for an individual with a disability will tell you that it is a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week responsibility. The demands placed on a caregiver can take a tremendous emotional, mental, and physical toll. For those entrusted with the care of another, time off is not merely a luxury, it is a necessity. And that’s where Konocti Respite Services (KRS) comes in.

KRS offers caregivers the opportunity to take a break and do something for themselves. Many recipients of respite services use this time to attend to personal needs, to schedule appointments, to catch up with friends, or to simply get some rest. Respite visits can take place in the family home or the community. Local parks, theaters, and recreational sites are popular destinations for many consumers, and transportation to and from these locations can be provided by our trained respite providers.

All KRS staff have been carefully screened and evaluated, and each staff member has received CPR and First Aid training. Furthermore, KRS respite providers come from a wide variety of backgrounds and bring with them a broad range of experience and talents which they employ to enhance every visit. Many families report that respite visits are among the most highly anticipated times of the week by both the caregiver and the consumer.

Caring for a loved one is a rewarding job, but one that can place tremendous stress on those who have assumed this responsibility. The availability of a strong support network can help to ease the strain that can sometimes affect caregivers and their families. Konocti Respite Services hopes to be one piece of that network.
